Highland MCM - Jersey City, NJ

This 1950's gem is set among a row of turn-of-the-century Victorians in the Journal Square section of Jersey City.  The house is remarkable due to it's unusual urban setting and the fact that it hasn't been altered through the years.

Our clients are interested in preserving the strong and unique character of the home while adding a second floor and making updates throughout.  Our solution proposes removing a bedroom and full bathroom from the main living level and opening the space up to the large, south facing rear yard.  A wall of tall cabinets along one side of the space will incorporate storage and conceal a small powder room serving the living space.

The new second floor will include two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a laundry room.  Additionally, a central "void" will create a visual connection between the floors while allowing sunlight to fill the center of the house from skylights above.
