Paulus Hook Row House

Jersey City, NJ

Two apartments become one family home as daylight finds its way through the heart of a Jersey City row house.…

Built in the 1980s alongside a group of similar row houses in a historic district in downtown Jersey City, this two-family building was reconfigured as a single home for a young family. Bringing daylight into the center of the house was the central challenge.

We removed unnecessary partitions and used large windows at the front and rear to bring daylight deeper into the plan. Skylights and openings between floors give light a second path, drawing it down into spaces beyond the reach of the windows. Together, these changes turn two separate units into a bright, open home with a stronger sense of connection between rooms and across levels.
